In case you forget to take your instructions with you, here they are:
Pretend that you work for a museum that is hosting a volcano exhibit. You are in charge of creating the "child-friendly" volcanic materials exhibit. Your goal is to teach young children about volcanic materials and to make them understand how they are similar to each other and how they are different from each other.
Your job:
1) Find an object to represent each volcanic material (including all the different types of tephra). Your objects do not have to look exactly like the real thing. For example, a golf ball could represent a piece of cinder, because of its size. Be creative!
2) Arrange these objects nicely in a box. You should be able to explain why you placed each object where you did.
3) Decorate the outside of your box.
4) Write small labels for each object, which explain why you chose each object to represent what it is. Give details!
Sample sentence starters:
I chose a golf ball to represent a piece of cinder because...
A golf ball is like cinder because...
5) Glue your labels into the box.
