Good luck on the MCAS!

I hope that all is going well.  I just wanted to wish all of you good luck for Thursday and Friday.

Recipe for Success:
1.  Read everything slowly and carefully.
2.  Highlight all of the numbers and units.
3.  Highlight key words that tell you what to do.
4.  Do all of your work on paper to avoid mistakes.
5.  Take your time; you will have the whole day if you need it.
6.  Check your answers.
7.  Do your BEST.

Don't worry if you can't remember how to do something right away.  Take some time to think about what you could do or circle the question and come back to it later.  You will do well if you work hard and try your best; you are ready for this test.  I wish you all good luck and wish that I could be there with you to offer my support.

Good-bye!

It has been a pleasure to teach all of you.  I will miss your enthusiasm and learning from you about all sorts of things.   Thank you for all the hugs, cards, and kind wishes.  I will be sure to send a couple of postcards from earthquake city.

As for the MCAS, you guys are ready.  Take your time, read everything carefully, highlight numbers and key words, and do all of your work on the paper.  If you do all that, you will be successful.  I will be with you in spirit.  Good luck, and make me proud.

I will miss you.   Smiley

You should all be very proud of yourselves for how hard you worked on the ELA MCAS today.  I know that I am.  Everyone took it very seriously and put a lot of thought and effort into their test.  I am certain that your results will reflect this.  Way to go!  One part down, only one more to go.  We are halfway, 0.5, 50% of the way done.

Math Night 3/13

              Grade 6 is AWESOME!!!!!!!!

    SmileySmiley

There were 22 volunteers out of 40.  (That's 11 out of 20 if you simplify, or 0.55 or 55%, which is more than half of the grade 6 class!)  Thanks for all of your help.  The kids really got involved in a lot of the activities and it was because of your enthusiasm.  I am proud of all the volunteers.  You rock!

Computer Lab for Tuesday

Webquest website - Click below

Earthquake Webquest

Computer Lab "To Do" List:
1.  Explore the website, including the blue links to the earthquake and tsunami animations, as well as some of the tsunami videos.
2.  Complete all parts of the earthquake webquest worksheet.
3.  Use the internet to help you complete the vocabulary study.  (Use the clues to help you figure out each missing word.  Some of the vocabulary may be made up of more than one word.  Each line takes the place of a letter, or a space if there is more than one word.  Ex.  _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ would fit Ring of Fire)

"Black Out Bullying" on Wed., Jan. 25th

Governor Deval Patrick has designated January 25th as “No Name Calling Day” in Massachusetts to increase awareness of the devastating effects of verbal bullying, to encourage students to use positive language and pledge not to use hurtful names on this day, and to promote tolerance and respect for differences.

Please help spread the word and make this day a success by wearing black on January 25th as a sign of our commitment to “Black Out Bullying.”

On this day, we will also take a stand against bullying by signing a banner that reads “I pledge to take a stand against bullying and name calling.”   This will be posted somewhere around the school.

Homework 1/19

Everyone worked hard on the math MAP test and there was a lot of improvement.  Way to go!  Keep working hard and stuffing all of that knowledge into your brains!

No homework today, but don't forget:  science project is due on Monday!

Hope You're Enjoying the Vacation!

I hope that everyone has had a nice and restful vacation so far.

It's the last day of 2011...  I wonder what the new year will bring.  Have you thought about your new year's resolution yet?  Mine is to be more patient, especially with my sisters.  (See, even adults have to work on that.)

Happy New Year!

Homework 11/10

6A had a lot of fun at Biogen today and we had the opportunity to use a lot of interesting equipment, such as micropipettes and a spectrophotometer.  We were also asked to put our math skills to work, graphing the relationship (function) between the amount of protein in a liquid and how much light passes through it (absorbance).  Everyone learned a lot about how medicines are designed and tested, and a lot of good questions were asked.

No homework this weekend.  Enjoy the nice weather we are supposed to have!

Hello Everyone, I hear that you had a good day.  I learned a lot of interesting things about data today, and look forward to talking with you about your data.

Just a short update:  I know that you didn't get a lot of time to work on your study sheets today, so...
The science test is moved to Thursday.  TBD tomorrow.

Don't forget to finish the math worksheets from Tuesday.  I will be collecting them tomorrow.
Also, please remember to return signed Poincare Institute math permission form.  Thank you!
